DEMAND to know the names of the “stakeholders” who now hold the power to influence whether or not your child’s school stays open.
Yesterday, a press conference was held by the Minister of Education, Cliff Cullen, and the Premier of Manitoba, Heather Stefanson, to announce a phased-in approach to K-12 school reopening after the Christmas break. As found here, and below, the provincial leaders mention that they “heard from s t a k e h o l d e r s” in making their decision. But did they hear from parents? Who are the stakeholders in Manitoba K-12 Education anyways?
We first recognized this language used by the Minister of Education in documents acquired through a Freedom of Information request (FIPPA) submitted in the summer of 2021, with documents delivered in November 2021. In response to the request for all documentation of meetings, including attendees and minutes regarding the policy response to COVID-19, the Office of the Minister of Education K-12 redacted the names of meeting attendees, including the “stakeholders” as well as any of their questions, recommendations, demands etc. made in discussions concerning stakeholders. See our prior post here:
This is unacceptable.
We aim to find out who these “stakeholders” are. We deserve to know who is making the decisions for Manitoba Education, their qualifications, and any conflict of interest that they may have. Is it possible that the “stakeholders” are private corporations? What happens when private corporations get to decide what is best for your child? Do you really believe they have your child’s best interests in mind?
Phone or write to the Manitoba School Board Association (contact info below) and DEMAND to know the names of the “stakeholders” who now hold the power to influence whether or not your child’s school stays open.
If you are calling, record your conversation. If you have taken the time to write, copy and paste the letter to your superintendent and your trustees and demand that as your children’s advocates, that they get the answers to these questions.
A government funded system is meant to be transparent as they are paid for by YOU, the taxpayer.
Phone. Write. Demand answers. Demand transparency. Your children’s future is at stake.
