Manitoba PLEASE SHOW UP - Plan20-50 Public Hearing, Thursday August 8, 2024, 2pm Heritage Centre, Niverville, MB
Show Up to Demonstrate Your Opposition at this 2nd and FINAL Public Hearing
Here is the link to Plan20-50, a 159 page document, drafted by the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) Board; the WMR is a statutory corporation. Although this directly concerns Winnipeg and 17 surrounding RMs it is important for all Manitoba residents to be aware as other municipalities in Manitoba will face similar pressure for central planning. Show up at 2pm to register your attendance.
On Page 4 of Plan20-50 it is explained that it: “aligns with the objectives of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that aim to foster a sustainable and prosperous future for people and the planet.” This is enough for us to believe that Plan20-50 is the name coined for Winnipeg’s 15-minute city proposal. If you have not heard of this before, you can watch a video about 15-minute cities in your preferred social media platforms.

Here are administrative details about the Thursday, August 8th, meeting. Your attendance is important. You can simply attend virtually, but a physical attendance makes a better impression. Come out to listen and learn; you do not have to speak publicly, but if you intend to speak you need to register through the link above by August 7th, 2024. You will get 10 minutes to voice your opinion. Shorter comments, questions or concerns are also welcome. Let your opposition be heard. You can also send in a written letter of opposition that will go on the public record.
Public Hearing #1 was held in Winnipeg on July 25th, 2024. Speakers were allotted 10 minutes. This short article, published by Marty Gold in the Winnipeg Sun on August 4, 2024, does a good job of summarizing some of the key elements of the event. About 250 people attended and there were several speakers; practically everyone opposed to the plan. Attendees were told that their questions would not be answered at the hearing; only that they, themselves, might be asked questions after they speak.
The 5 1/2 hour recording of Public Hearing #1 is provided with a link below and a timestamps for the speakers. (I apologize if I spelled someone’s name incorrectly)
